How we started
Shade & Wise Brick Company, an independent masonry supplier in Central Virginia, was founded over 60 years ago in the heart of Richmond. With an emphasis on fair pricing and quality customer service, our company has evolved into the premier brick distributor for residential and architectural masonry products. Design professionals as well as builders and masons rely on our certified brick specialists to provide them with the best sales assistance and technical expertise.
Today, we are proud to say that each member of our sales team is a Certified Brick Specialist (certified by the Brick Industry Association), each of whom stands ready to promote the use of masonry and serve the masonry and architectural communities with their expertise. The company currently operates two locations to serve the masonry needs of the Richmond metropolitan market. Our headquarters, located on Dabney Road in Henrico County, maintains a 34,000 sqft facility with four to six million brick in stock. Our branch office in Powhatan Virginia, is a 25,000 sqft distribution center with a state-of-the-art showroom with an additional two to three million bricks on hand. Shade & Wise is now the largest independent masonry products distributor in Central Virginia.
The 1990’s brought enormous change and growth to Shade & Wise. As we enter the new millennium, we expect more of the same; all the while, adhering to the original principles of fair pricing and quality customer service which have served us well over the past 60 years.

A 2021 AIA Virginia Honors Company
Shade & Wise was awarded AIA Virginia Honors at the Visions for Architecture ceremony on Nov. 5, 2021. This recognition may be bestowed on non-member individuals or organizations that have inspired, influenced, or complemented the architecture profession in Virginia through the practice of an allied profession, research, education, planning, legislation, architectural writing, the arts, or crafts.
